Crypt Beetle the cheap tank

Splinterlands weekly share your battle post is once again about another card that I haven't maxed out yet. I rented a level 5 crypt beetle to make the challenger easier on myself since it would be hard to get a win using a level 2 crypt beetle in diamond II.
After I was done with the challenge I decided to buy some copies from the market and upgrade it to level 3, it might come in handy if I get a death splinter daily quest.

Let's take a look at the Crypt Beetle stats to see how best to use it. A quick over view: Low speed, shield ability, low health with some shield, low mana cost.
This card has a major weakness to magic attackers since they would ignore the shield and knock it out with one attack, possibly two. Other than that it is a pretty tank and there are a few rulesets where it is a great front-line pick for low mana cap matches.

Lost Magic - If your opponent is forced to play melee and ranged cards you can guarantee that the crypt beetle will be able to soak and block a ton of damage before it goes down. On top of that, it will take 0 damage from any monsters with an attack stat lower than two.

Weak Magic - Weak magic will guarantee the usefulness of your shield.

Little League, Reverse Speed, Equaliser - These are also great rulesets for the crypt beetle if you think your opponent won't be playing with magic damage. To be safe you can combo with another card that has the silencing ability, this way you can be sure that it will survive at least two attacks.

Mana cap: 19
Ruleset: Equaliser and Odd ones out

Low mana cap and Equaliser ruleset is the perfect opportunity to bring my crypt beetle to the battlefield along with a team of sneaky attackers and a monster with the silencing ability. The creeping ooze made it into the team just because it is the best option when you have 1 free spot and one mana left to spend.

First-round done and the beetle tanked 3 attacks while only losing 2 shield and 1 health, impressive tank! His backline is the biggest threat to my team but it will soon die to my sneak attacker.

4 rounds in and my sneaky strategy wiped out all the ranged attackers. My opponent was quite lucky to have poisoned me with every strike except for one. My beetle is about to drop as is my backline.

Looks like the creeping ooze was a crucial part of my team, it held the frontline long enough for me to deal with the INSANELY lucky Uraeus that poisoned me with every strike. It is gg at this point, he has no more damage dealers so it is just a matter of time.

It was one of those battles that keeps me at the edge of my seat cursing at my opponent's lucky poisons. Fortunately, the superior strategy won in the end.
The luck aspect makes watching the games way more fun, because you never know what the outcome will be, every now and then I think the match is an easy clap and end up getting extremely unlucky, or the other way around... I'm sure I will lose and instantly skip the game only to be surprised by the end screen. I obviously watch the replay afterward to figure out what happened.
